A Fun (and Sassy!) Small Office Makeover

These days, there’s a large majority of people who work from home. My daughter, Leslie, has been working from home for almost 4 years now and it’s been great for her. Technology gives you more opportunities now than it did before and we all love it, don’t we? That’s why I thought it was important for her to have her own space to separate home and work. Don’t forget her apartment is small and it was a little hard to make an office space for her, but I believe anything is possible with the right merchandise and creative vision!

In this post, I’ll be showing you that you can make your own home office in any space available in your home. You don’t need to have a big, spacious house to be able to make your own space.

The first thing I did was look for a wallpaper that would separate this space from the rest. I wanted to keep this area different and far from my daughter’s bedroom to differentiate both. I chose removable wallpaper because the apartment is a rental. When it comes time to move out, we can just remove it with no problem! This wallpaper is in her favorite colors: black and white. It’s fun, isn’t it? Adding the gold gives it a great contrast.

This space is in between the doors to her bedroom and her closet. It’s the perfect space for this small office and it also fits the desk perfectly. Adding the wallpaper separates the space and it doesn’t look like it’s even a part of the bedroom. I went to HomeGoods to look for all of the necessary decor for this small project. I found everything I needed- and more! – from the chair, to the shelf and to all the accessories.

Small office spaces can be done anywhere in your home. All you need to do is use your creativity and make it work in your own way. I like clear containers to make an organized station. If you need more space to add paperwork, you can always put a small filing cabinet underneath your desk. In this case, I only needed to add the small file folders to the top of the shelf.

Adding shelves is also a great idea. It transforms your work place into a more organized area and you’ll have extra space — not to mention they look so cute!

There were a few key pieces like the desk, floating shelves, chair and this lamp. These all helped transform this space to an efficient area where she can work comfortably.

A splash of color is great, like I managed to do with this chair in the color magenta. I added flowers and some feathers to give the work space more energy. When choosing the colors, I wanted to keep it all in the same color family but it was also important to me to give the space some personality.

I added a magnet frame so she can put her notes and won’t forget her messages. I also added a small lamp — it’s perfect and does not take up too much space.

Remember that any small space in your home can be converted to a small office. Using your imagination, anything is possible. Don’t forget that at HomeGoods you can find everything you need for all your projects, big and small. I hope you enjoyed this post and project and I’ll see you next time!
